What is Psych Lab?

We're not some huge tech firm with "gig" therapists texting canned responses to hundreds of clients for 20 bucks an hour. We're not an insurance mill pushing time-limited solutions to problems that deserve thoughtful care. We're a small, dedicated team of highly qualified therapists committed to providing the most effective, private therapy for our community.

Is online therapy effective?

Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person psychotherapy. There are several factors that do affect therapy outcome — and this is where we want to invest our attention:

  1. Collaboration - By focusing on clarifying and strengthening your goals for yourself and your life, our therapists accentuate a major factor in your success.
  2. Empathy - We believe everyone deserves to be understood. Even when it feels to you like your thoughts or behavior aren't making any sense, we know that people always make sense if we can learn to see them in context. We have more faith in you than you have in yourself, because we've seen again and again the ability of our clients to surpass their own expectations.
  3. Emotional skills - Our trauma-informed approach focuses on helping you gain the fundamental skills for well-being. One of these is Mindfulness — the ability to stay present and not allow thoughts & feelings to distort reality. Another is Mentalization — the ability to understand your own mind and the minds of others.

How does online therapy work?

We use a secure, encrypted, HIPAA-compliant videoconference platform to connect you directly with your therapist. When it's time for your appointment, you simply click a link and connect from any browser (no extra software needed.) We're able to help anyone currently residing within the state of California.

Just like in-person psychotherapy, sessions last about 50 minutes and focus on the issues most important to your well-being. We also offer online marriage counseling, online couples counseling, and online family therapy.

How much does online therapy cost?

The cost of online therapy is the same as for in-person sessions, and is based on the education level of the therapist. Currently, the cost of a 50-minute session is $180.

We do not accept private insurance, but we're happy to help you submit claims for reimbursement. We do accept Medicare, Tricare, and CHAMPVA.
